Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound fresh strawberries stems removed
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 1/2 to 5 cups water divided
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh-squeezed lemon juice
  • Ice for serving

Equipment

  • Blender or food processor
  • Fine mesh sieve
  • Small saucepan
  • spoon
  • 2-quart pitcher
  • Measuring cups
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Serving glasses

Method

  1. Use a blender or food processor to puree the strawberries. Strain through a fine mesh sieve, if desired, to remove seeds.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, stir together sugar and 2 cups water.
  3. Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature.
  4. Strain the lemon juice through a fine mesh sieve into a 2-quart pitcher.
  5. Add the simple syrup and pureed strawberries. Stir to combine.
  6. Refrigerate until cold.
  7. When ready to serve, add 2 1/2 cups cold water and stir. Taste and add more water if it is too sweet.
  8. Serve with ice.

Notes

Strain the strawberry puree for a smoother drink.
Add ice to glasses instead of the pitcher to avoid watering down the lemonade.
Stir before serving because fruit may settle.
